Seven Pitfalls When Choosing a Medium-Speed Wire EDM Machine

Pitfall 1

Focusing Only on Advanced Technology Without Providing Key Machine Accuracy Specifications

CNC machines are different from ordinary mechanical products. A machine without sufficient accuracy has little practical value. Key performance specifications are the measurable proof of advanced technology. If critical technical specifications are avoided, claims of advanced technology are meaningless.

Pitfall 2

Highlighting Maximum Cutting Efficiency Without Mentioning Continuous Cutting Time

No matter how high the cutting efficiency is, it has limited practical value if the machine cannot maintain continuous machining for more than 24 hours.

Pitfall 3

Highlighting Minimum Surface Roughness Without Specifying the Continuous Cutting Area

Even with excellent surface roughness, if the machine cannot continuously cut more than 20,000mm² without manual intervention, its practical value remains limited and it can only be considered an entry-level medium-speed wire EDM system.
Good Product Standard: Ra≦1.0μm / 30,000mm²

Pitfall 4

Focusing Only on Machining Accuracy Without Addressing Stability and Consistency Across Multiple Workpieces

When continuously machining dozens of identical workpieces or progressive die components, dimensional consistency is especially important. Note that continuous machining here means the process must be completed without manual inspection, compensation for molybdenum wire diameter, or other operator intervention.
Good Product Standard: Dimensional consistency error ≦0.005mm / 30 workpieces

Pitfall 5

Focusing Only on Workpiece Thickness Without Specifying Dimensional Deviation Between the Top, Middle, and Bottom

When machining workpieces over 100mm thick, dimensional deviations can easily occur between the top, middle, and bottom, resulting in a barrel-shaped profile error.
Good Product Standard: Longitudinal dimensional deviation ≦0.005mm / 100mm; ≦0.02mm / 200mm

Pitfall 6

Claiming 30°–60° Large-Taper Cutting Without Specifying the Achievable Surface Roughness

A truly high-performance medium-speed wire EDM machine should achieve a surface roughness of Ra≦1.2μm when performing 60° large-taper cutting, without using any type of wire guide or guide die. It should also maintain this performance during continuous large-area cutting to provide genuine practical value.
Good Product Standard: At a taper of 60° / 50mm, Ra≦1.2μm / 3000mm² (without wire guides)

Pitfall 7

Focusing Only on Cutting Quality Without Considering Dependence on Operator Skill

No matter how good the machining quality is, if it can only be achieved by relying heavily on the individual skills of the operator, the machine cannot be considered a truly advanced medium-speed wire EDM system.
Good Product Standard: Fully intelligent operation
